Trigger mechanism may buy time for negotiations; Ex-diplomat
A professor of geopolitical studies Abdolreza Faraji-Rad said that Europeans certainly have no plans to refer Iran's issue to the UN Security Council in the near future.
In an interview with ILNA published on Wednesday, Iran's former ambassador to Norway said “I believe that the purpose of EU3 countries is more to invite to negotiate but with a little threat.”
“They cannot easily say that Iran has not fulfilled its obligations under the nuclear deal.”
The UK, France, and Germany have officially launched the dispute mechanism in the Iran nuclear agreement 2015, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) but highlighted that they won't impose US President Donald Trump's 'maximum pressure' sanctions on Tehran.
Referring to the Ukrainian plane crashed, the director general of the Strategic Foreign Relations Council confirmed that the European troika is taking advantage of this event.
“Of course, trigger mechanism does not mean referring Iran's issue to the UN Security Council and returning sanctions,” Abdolreza Faraji-Rad said.
The ex-diplomat said “Iran will definitely be invited to the new negotiations,” adding that Tehran can wait for the results of the US next presidential elections.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a follow-up tweet called on the three European powers -France, Germany, and the UK- to stop bowing to the US' diktat and rather 'muster the courage' to fulfill their obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi has said that the European Troika statement on activation of the process for resolving disputes in the 2015 nuclear agreement shows the weakness of the European side.
