Talks deadlock will continue if Iran-U.S. differences not solved: Expert
An expert on international relations has said that “I think that we can be cautiously optimistic and consider the possibility of reviving the JCPOA 50-50. The importance of the deal to continue the talks between Iran and the U.S. is because this may be the last chance to revive the JCPOA.”
The recent visit of the JCPOA coordinator to Iran focused on the modality of continuing the talks, not the content, Korush Ahmadi told ILNA. He said that the content of the Vienna deal is almost complete and there are some disagreements between Iran and the U.S. like removing the name of IRGC from the FTO list.
A special decision should be made by Iran and the U.S. to remove the name of JCPOA from the FTO list, he said, adding that if disagreements are solved on these issues, the way for implementing the deal that had been reached in Vienna will be paved. Otherwise, the dead-end of the last three months will continue.
Commenting on the possibility of Biden showing flexibility regarding Iran’s condition given the upcoming Congress elections, he noted that everything depended on the deal condition.
“Seemingly, according to Biden’s government assessments, because of many reasons including the upcoming mid-term congressional elections, they can’t remove the IRGC from the FTO list," he said.
Responding to a question that is there any hope that the new round of nuclear talks yields any result, he said that “I think that we can be cautiously optimistic and consider the possibility of reviving the JCPOA 50-50.”
The importance of Iran and the U.S. negotiations is because this may be the last chance to revive the JCPOA, he added.
