Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers Party of Korea, gives field guidance to Pyongyang Orphans' Secondary School

-Two Realities in Stark Contrast

Against the backdrop of ever-increasing damage from COVID-19 in the United States which boasts of its modern civilization, the number of children infected with malignant virus is also on constant increase, adding to social apprehension.

Recently, U.S. Pediatrics Society and Children’s Hospital Association have issued a report that since the outbreak of COVID-19, the number of infected children has mounted to 13.6 million in the U.S.

In the U.S., more than 440 children have lost their lives due to the COVID-19 crisis. This year, 5.7 million children have been infected.

This means that 67, 200 more children have been infected compared to the same period of last year. In the U.S., the number of infected children accounts for 18.9% of all infection cases.

It is said that in several states including Florida, Texas, and Georgia, and beyond, an average of 330-odd infected children is hospitalized every day. It is also said that the number of orphans who have lost their parents due to the malignant virus disease reaches over 200,000.

In this regard, the Chinese Xinhua News Agency carried an article titled “U.S. 200,000 ‘COVID-19 Orphans’ Interrogate Washington’s Conscience”. It condemned as follows:

200,000 orphans belong to low-income class, non-white families and ethnic minorities from their birth. They have dropped out of schools and have chosen the paths to drugs and violence. But Washington is reluctant to take any legal measures or issue any administrative orders to save them.

It continued to say that the U.S. politicians are much more concerned about preserving the economy than the lives of people, and they are more interested in running stock markets than anti-epidemic work. It also ridiculed that “COVID-19 orphans” shattered the dream of the U.S., and this is a sad thing for the “superpower”.

The children who should grow up with dreams of happiness are forsaken by the society, and they fall victim to the malignant virus. Such a miserable reality enables us to predict the gloomy future of the American society.

This is in stark contrast to the happy life our children are enjoying under socialist system.

In May this year, the inflow of malignant virus activated maximum emergency anti-epidemic system in our country. Thus the period of trial, so harsh that can be called as great upheaval since the founding of our country, befell us. In these days, our Party and State took several measures of love for our children. This touched all people’s hearts.

For Brighter Future of Country: DPR Korea

On May 15, a few days after the shift to maximum emergency anti-epidemic system, a special order of the Party Central Military Commission was issued. According to the order, the strong medical team from the Korean People’s Army (KPA) got involved in the tense struggle to stabilize the supply of medicines throughout the country. Even at this critical juncture, Pyongyang Children’s Foodstuff Factory never stopped its production of infant milk powder and rice powder for children across the country.

The situation was so tense with actions being taken to supply people in quarantine with medicines, food, fuel and subsidiary food. Despite this, trucks loaded with infant milk powder, rice powder with the brand of “Kkotmangul” (flower bud) and fish were running to all baby homes, children’s homes, primary and secondary boarding schools across the country. Every family shed emotional tears before this.

Though everything is difficult and in short supply, our country is providing all students throughout the country with new school uniforms and stationery at state’s expense. This measure can be taken only by our Party and state which have fixed the love for posterity and future as its policy.

Our people extend their deep gratitude to our Party and state which bring the laugher to our children and make their beautiful dreams come true. And they are vigorously advancing towards the future with confidence in victory.

-Affection Grows Stronger Even in A Difficult Time

From the ancient times, it has been said that no sadness is greater than that of orphans.

Sadness of orphans is the one of not having parents. It is a yearning for warm love from parents.

According to recent press report by one country, approximately 200,000 children lost one of their parents due to the pandemic in the U.S. in early April this year. And most of the orphans were not provided with necessary assistance including education, nutrition and human rights protection, resulting in the serious “orphan crisis”.

Conversely, orphans are fully enjoying their happy life as usual in our country, free from sadness of not having parents even under the greatest emergency anti-epidemic system.

In mid-May, vehicles fully loaded with fish arrived in succession at all the baby homes, children’s homes, primary and secondary boarding schools across the country.

Although he was busy leading the anti-epidemic war to victory, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un did not put the orphans out of his mind even for a single moment and took measures of love to provide them with fresh fish, concerned lest they would lose their appetite or not find fish dish even for a meal.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un fathomed the hearts of the orphans yearning for affection than anybody else. He ensured that the Party and state bring them up cheerful and upright in place of their parents. He is showing meticulous attention and care even about their nutrition, to say nothing of their education, health and living conditions.

Thanks to the love of Comrade Kim Jong Un, warmer and greater than that of their real parents, children are growing well in the best conditions and environment being supplied with dairy products, fruits, snacks and fish.

Hence, a Russian Internet homepage posted a following article about the children in the baby homes and children’s homes in our country:

“In every country, children without parents have been considered as the beings showing the darkest side of the state and society.

But orphans in the DPRK are enjoying their life receiving all privileges and immunities.

We cannot find even any shadow on the faces of children who are laughing and playing to their hearts’ content free from cares and worries. The future of Korea is really bright.”

People in the capitalist countries are writhing in extreme anxiety and despair as they were faced with orphan crisis as well as with the serious health crisis, unemployment crises, and hard life by the spread of malignant virus. But the windows of baby homes and children’s homes in our country are overflowing with flavor of the sea and the fruit, and the laughter of children.

As we hold up the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, the true father of all the children of the country, their laughter and song will reverberate far and wide on this land.

-Two Different Status of “Kings” and Vagabonds Reflected in Protection and Promotion of Children’s Rights

To protect children’s rights is a very important issue related with the development of the country, nation and the future of humankind.

The saying that you should look at the children first to know about the progressive nature of the society may come out of this.

In our country children are held deer as the kings and queens of the country, and the work for new generations is given a top priority of the utmost importance in the work of the Party and State.

The advantage of our system can be easily found in the Law on the Protection and Promotion of Children’s Rights permeated with love for posterity and future.

For Brighter Future of Country: DPR Korea

The Law of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on the Protection and Promotion of Children’s Rights contributes to fully guarantee the rights and interests of the children in every field including social life, education, public health, family and justice by further consolidating and developing the system of ensuring children’s rights.

The Law on the Protection and Promotion of Children’s Rights stipulates that the State shall ensure that children are preferentially provided with the best things necessary for their health, education and life in accordance with the principle of “Best Things to Children” and that children shall have the rights to receive universal 12-year compulsory education and to enjoy the benefits of complete and universal free medical care.

It also stipulates that children who cannot be cared for by parents or guardians shall be brought up at the State’s expense at baby homes, and orphanages and schools.

All these provisions are implemented to the letter as obligatory policies of the Party and State even in the difficult period when the country suffers ordeals, not to say in the ordinary days.

Though the state anti-epidemic system was shifted to the maximum emergency anti-epidemic system due to the spread of malignant virus disease, the production of summer school uniforms for children has never stopped and is drawing to a close. Other measures were also taken to supply dairy products to the children in the regions in quarantine, thus milk powder and rice powder of love for babies are being delivered to the far-flung houses in the mountainous regions. This is the reality of our country where such dream-like stories are heard every day and every moment.

We hold children as the kings and queens of the country and bestow boundless love on them regarding the work for posterity as the most important affair of the State. Such a reality cannot be found anywhere except for our socialist system.

When we look around the world, we can find that many children are, due to armed conflicts, being threatened with their life every moment, far from receiving education. The children, who are supposed to be studying at schools, are groaning under the burden of toil in labor fields. Even those countries boasting of developed medical science fail to control and manage the spread of malignant virus. As a result, tens of millions of children are suffering from diseases, and young flower buds are losing their lives in those countries.

For Brighter Future of Country: DPR Korea

Severe human rights violations, such as child labor, human trafficking, forced detention and maltreatment against the refugees and native children are committed with no let-up, and who would take care of children without parents has become a serious social headache, making many orphans wander around after being forsaken by the society. This is the reality of the capitalist countries.

There are many countries in the world but none of them gives a top and absolute priority to the work of bringing up the children as the masters of future like our socialist system.

Our future will always be bright, along with the song of “We are the happiest in the world” that will resonate in the clear blue sky of our country forever.
