No cases of coronavirus reported in Iran so far; Health official

“We have not yet received any reports of the coronavirus entering our country,” Director-General of Communicable Diseases Mohammad Mehdi Gouya told ILNA.

Speaking to ILNA news agency, he said that no cases of coronavirus infection or even suspected cases have so far been reported in the country.

“Neither the passengers who arrived in Iran nor our compatriots were infected with the virus so far,” he confirmed.

The official pointed to two tourists suspected of having contracted the novel coronavirus and added that fortunately in the supplementary tests, none of the German and Chinese tourists showed positive symptoms.

Asked by reporters about the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s measures and plans in the fight against the new coronavirusو Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized on Tuesday that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been fully prepared for cooperation and interaction with the relevant organizations since the onset of the outbreak of the crisis.

Mousavi also noted that Iran’s Embassy in Beijing has established contact with the Iranian university students residing in the Chinese city of Wuhan, and has dispatched packages of foodstuff to their dormitories considering a shortage of food in the city of ten million populations.

According to the statement, 80 Iranians are now in Wuhan which is the center of virus release and the embassy is in contact with them.

The National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China has allocated 60 billion Yuan ($8.7b) for fighting Coronavirus.

The coronavirus was first seen in late December 2019 in Wuhan, central China. It has so far killed 132 and affected too many while there are 1,287 suspected cases.
