Amir-Abdollahian, Guterres confer on JCPOA and Afghanistan

In this telephone conversation, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while referring to the terrorist acts of ISIS in Afghanistan in recent days, expressed concern over the situation in this country and stated: "Terrorist movements and the targeting of worshipers, along with the resettlement of Afghan refugees, have increased the responsibility of the United Nations and its Secretary-General in this regard."

In a telephone conversation with Guterres, Amir Abdollahian called for serious action by the UN Secretary-General to stop and combat terrorism in Afghanistan.

Guterres also stated in this telephone conversation: "As the United Nations continues to send humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, it emphasizes the need for an inclusive government in the country that includes all Afghan ethnic groups and minorities."

Following the conversation, Amir Abdollahian referred to the holding of a regional conference on Afghanistan in Tehran and said: "The conference is scheduled to be attended by foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighboring countries."

In this telephone call, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran also referred to the nuclear talks and said: "Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister's recent talks with Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary General of the European Union's Foreign Service, have been positive."

Amir Abdollahian added that the two sides will continue these talks next week in Brussels, Belgium.

The Islamic Republic of Iran supports negotiations that have tangible practical results, and if the members of the JCPOA fulfill their full obligations, Iran will return to its obligations too.

Referring to the exchange of prisoners, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran said: "We consider the issue of prisoners to be humanitarian and we do not want it to be tied to the nuclear talks."

In this telephone conversation, "Amir Abdollahian" also invited Guterres to travel to Iran.

Guterres also expressed hope for the success of the nuclear talks, saying: The United Nations has always supported the JCPOA, and since former US President Donald Trump's withdrawal, has sought a way to restore the deal to its former condition before the United States withdrawal.
