We stand by Iran's people and workers; WFTU General Secretary

George Mavrikos, General Secretary of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) in the opening remarks of the meeting of WFTU in Tehran said that we are against imperialism of the United States while standing by Iran's people and workers.

"It is proud for us to be present in the beautiful country of Iran and confirm our solidarity with Iranian workers", Mavrikos added.

He noted that we have been together since 1948 and today we are with ordinary people and working class people, so we stand against Donald Tramp's aggressive policies towards Iran, Cuba and Venezuela.

According to Mavrikos, WFTU believe we have a challenging year ahead so we had successful meeting in Africa and consultations in Latin America and in Mexico were also very helpful.

"Unions must act more independently, and we all need the support and assistance of other members of the union, and this assistance and support should not be stopped", General Secretary of WFTUsaid.

The works of the first day of the WFTU Presidential Council Meeting started on 26th February 2018 in Tehran, Iran. During the 2-days meeting, the presidential council members will discuss and determine the WFTU goals and priorities for 2018.

Alireza Mahjoub, secretary-General of Iran’s worker house said that at this summit, representatives of workers from 24 countries from five continents have participated.

Various countries include India, Nepal, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba, Greece, Indonesia, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, Vietnam, Denmark, Afghanistan, Brazil, Sudan, Portugal, Cyprus, South Africa, Bangladesh, Peru, Congo, Gabon, Guyana, Italy, Nigeria, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Uruguay, Venezuela and North Korea attended this summit in Tehran.
