An expert on foreign policy has said that the definitive defeat of the JCPOA can increase the tensions in the region and lead to negative impacts on the process of de-escalation between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Referring to today’s Enrique Mora visit to Iran to discuss the latest developments of the Vienna talks, Korosh Ahmadi said in remarks to ILNA that if this visit ends without any result, the deadlock in talks over reviving the JCPOA would be definitive.

“So we should wait to see different conditions in the future to resume the efforts,” he said.

He noted that now the Ukraine war has provided a very good opportunity for Iran. The West needs energy so the Iran deal can be revived in better conditions for Tehran.

“Given such a perspective it is in favor of Iran to revive the 2015 deal. Iran should not engage in unimportant details before this opportunity is missed,” he added.

Commenting on the upcoming visit of the emir of Qatar to Iran, he said that Iran is directly in touch with the representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs at present, and there is no reason that Iran wants Qatar or any other country in the region to mediate in this regard.

“It seems that definitive defeat of the JCPOA can increase the tensions in the region and have negative impacts on the process of de-escalation between Iran and Saudi Arabia,” he asserted.
