Iran, Turkey review Venezuela development

Foreign Ministers of Iran and Turkey in a phone conversation reviewed the latest developments in Venezuela and exchanged views on regional issues.

During the conversation on Saturday, Iran's Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed the situation in the Latin American country with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut CavuSoglu.

Zarif had already reviewed Caracas developments in a phone coversation with Venezuela's Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza on Friday.

He voiced Iran’s backing to the Venezuelan government which is facing a political crisis.

Both ministers discussed ways of countering US plots against independent governments, especially Venezuela.

They also reviewed the proposals put forward by Mexican and Uruguayan governments to reinforce local dialogue and reviewed ways of using diplomatic means to settle disputes between the Venezuelan government and the opposition groups.

Over the past days, Venezuela has been the scene of some harsh political developments. Opposition leader Juan Guaido swore himself as interim president on Wednesday.
