Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said Iran is prepared for both diplomacy and war to defend the country, adding that Tehran is finalizing its response to US comments on Iran’s proposed plan.

In an interview with Al Araby, Gharibabadi said Tehran was reviewing the American side’s comments and views on Iran’s proposal, which was presented in New York.

Addressing the course of negotiations between Iran and the United States, he said the Islamic Republic had continued to participate in the talks, while the US side had violated its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

Separately, speaking at a press conference with domestic and foreign media representatives in Bandar Abbas on Sunday night, Gharibabadi discussed the seven-day proposal and Washington’s response to it. He said the proposal had been conveyed through intermediaries and mediators, and that the US side’s comments had been received and were under review. He added that Iran would communicate its response through the same channels after completing its internal assessment.

Gharibabadi stressed that a return to normal conditions and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz depended entirely on the United States returning to its previous commitments.

He said the US return to its commitments was an essential and inseparable part of the process, adding that any subsequent action by the Islamic Republic would depend on it.
