Iran has expressed concern over the possibility of militants taking advantage out of the Syrian truce.

Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan has said that the ceasefire could reinforce the militant groups fighting against President Bashar al-Assad’s government.

Supporters of militant groups may use the ceasefire as an opportunity to equip them, he added. Expressing support for establishing truce in Syria, he said that during the ceasefire all involved parties should make efforts in order to deliver humanitarian aid to Syrians in besieged areas.

Following a meeting in Geneva on September 10, Russia and the US agreed to co-ordinate air strikes against extremists in Syria. As part of a detailed agreement to reduce the violence there, a "cessation of hostilities" is expected to be established.

The ceasefire does not include terrorist groups such as the IS terrorist group (ISIS,ISIL, Daesh).
