IRGC Downs U.S. MQ-1 Drone After Territorial Waters Violation
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said its air defense units intercepted and destroyed a U.S. MQ-1 drone after it entered Iranian territorial waters, reaffirming that any breach of the country’s sovereignty would be met with a decisive response.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that one U.S. MQ-1 drone was intercepted and destroyed after entering Iranian territorial waters in the early hours of the day.
According to the IRGC, the drone entered the country’s territorial waters with the intention of conducting a hostile operation. It was immediately detected by the IRGC’s surveillance systems and targeted by advanced air defense missile systems before being shot down.
The IRGC said the country’s territorial waters and airspace remain under full control and monitoring by its air defense forces.
The force further warned that any violation of the sovereignty and territorial boundaries of the Islamic Republic of Iran would be met with a firm and decisive response.
