Iran’s U17 Greco-Roman wrestling team secured the Asian championship title after finishing atop the medal table with six gold, one silver, and one bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Vietnam.

Iran’s young Greco-Roman wrestlers added one silver and one bronze medal in the final day of competition at the Asian U17 Wrestling Championships in Vietnam, sealing the team title with an impressive overall performance.

In the 65kg category, Hamed Dehghanzadeh opened his campaign with an 8-0 victory over Yuki Yada of Japan before defeating South Korea’s Gyeon Hyeon Nam 7-1 to advance to the semifinals. He was then beaten 10-4 by Kazakhstan’s Miras Makhambet and moved into the bronze-medal match, where he suffered a 9-0 loss to China’s Yongqi Qiu, ultimately finishing fifth.

At 71kg, Esmaeil Zaherdoust began with a dominant 10-0 win over Japan’s Hiroto Kadohira. He followed that with an 11-2 victory against Uzbekistan’s Kudirjan Fazilov to reach the semifinals. Zaherdoust then defeated Kazakhstan’s Timur Kosainov 8-0 to secure a place in the final, where he lost 9-0 to Kyrgyzstan’s Bail Nuraliev and settled for the silver medal.

In the 80kg division, Mehdi Gholamian was narrowly defeated 5-4 by China’s Youjian Cheng in the opening round. After his opponent advanced to the final, Gholamian entered the repechage, where he overcame Tajikistan’s Muhammad Zayniddinzod 6-2 to reach the bronze-medal bout. He then defeated Kazakhstan’s Alinur Toliugali by technical superiority to claim the bronze medal.

Iran had already collected six gold medals on the opening day of the tournament through Armin Esmaeili (45kg), Ali Esmaeili (48kg), Vahid Ashiri (55kg), Amirreza Tahmasbpour (60kg), Amirreza Mehri (92kg), and Ali Akbar Aku (110kg).

With a final tally of six gold medals, one silver, and one bronze, Iran crowned a dominant campaign by winning the Asian U17 Greco-Roman wrestling team title.
