Iranian First Vice President said the country's petrochemical production capacity is expected to reach 90 million tons per year by 2022.

Iran’s petrochemical production capacity is expected to reach 90 million tons per year from currently 64 million tons per year by 2022, according to Iranian First Vice President Eshagh Jahangiri.

While addressing a nationwide governors’ conference in Tehran on Thursday, Jahangiri said the boost would be made possible once 18 new petrochemical projects came online by 2022.

Jahangiri, who was speaking in the southwestern Fars province, said that such growth in the petrochemical sector of the country was unprecedented.

He further said that by imposing sanctions, the Americans sought to dissolve the Islamic establishment of Iran which would never take place given the help of God.

According to Iran Press, earlier, the spokesman for the Iranian Parliament's Energy Commission Asadollah Gharehkhani announced that the Islamic Republic of Iran possesses a highly developed petrochemicals industry with 300 types of petrochemical products which indicates a diversified petrochemicals market, and certainly the enemies in this regard will not succeed in their aims.

The United States targeted Iran’s petrochemical industry in recent sanctions imposed, including the country’s largest petrochemical holding group.
