Iran, G4+1 resume talks at expert level
Iran and G4+1 (Britain, France, Germany and China plus Russia) will resume nuclear talks at the expert level in the Belgian capital of Brussels on Tuesday.
Iran and G4+1 are expected to discuss the US' unilateral sanctions, including the recent decision by the United States not to extend waivers with regards to oil trade with Iran and waivers for nuclear non-proliferation projects in the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Iran and the European Union (EU) cooperation within the framework of the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX) is also expected to be the next topic to be discussed during the meeting between Ali Asghar Nouri CEO of SATMA, Iran’s special financial channel for trade with European countries under the US sanctions and Per Fischer, director of INSTEX.
The European Union (EU) and the foreign ministers of Britain, France and Germany in a joint statement on Saturday expressed their grave concern over the US' new sanctions against Iran's oil trade and peaceful nuclear projects.
According to official website of the European Union External Action, the press release said, 'We, the High Representative of the European Union and the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany and the United Kingdom, take note with regret and concern of the decision by the United States not to extend waivers with regards to trade in oil with Iran.'
'We also note with concern the decision by the United States not to fully renew waivers for nuclear non-proliferation projects in the framework of the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action),' it added.
US President Donald Trump announced on May 8, 2018 the United States’ withdrawal of Iran nuclear deal and restored the US sanctions against Iran in November. Nevertheless, Iran and other countries that confirmed the JCPOA, including Russia, China, Britain, Germany and France are still committed, and the International Atomic Energy Agency has repeatedly stated Iran's commitment to this agreement.
The US continued its anti-Iranian measures, including the name of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) in the list of terrorist groups, and lifting the exemption of eight buyers of Iranian oil and announced it would work to zero Iran's sales of its oil.
