Iran, Europe urge implementation of Yemen Peace Agreement

Iran and the European Union stressed the importance of immediate implementation of Stockholm Ageement to establish ceasefire in yemen's Hodeida port.

According to a statement which was published in the EU website on Monday, 'EU/E4 political consultations on regional issues with Iran were hosted in Brussels on 18 March 2019.

This is the fifth meeting in this format.

The meeting was chaired by European External Action Service (EEAS) Secretary General Helga Schmid and attended by France, Germany, Italy and United Kingdom at the level of Political Directors. The Iranian delegation was led by Hossein Jaberi Ansari, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs.

The discussions focused on the political and humanitarian situation in Yemen. All sides reiterated their strong support to a continued UN-led process under the UN Special Envoy Martin Griffith and underlined the importance of the Stockholm Agreement and its swift implementation, in particular in Hodeida.

The participants also updated on the outcome of the Brussels III Conference on “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region” and on follow-up to the Astana process on Syria.

The participants agreed to meet again in this format in the near future.'

Meanwhile, earlier on Monday , Senior Assistant to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari conferred with Secretary General of European Union External Action Service (EEAS) Helga Schmid on issues of mutual interests, it was announced on Monday.

In their meeting in Brussels on Sunday night, and Schmid exchanged views on various issues such as current crisis in Yemen and Syria along with regional developments.

Iran's envoy is there to attend the fifth round of talks between Iran and the four European countries (Germany, France, England and Italy) on Yemen's crisis.
