US President Donald Trump is set to take Chinese President Xi Jinping to the National Archives on Friday as Xi concludes his three-day state visit to Washington.
The visit has been marked by public displays of cordiality between the leaders of the United States and China, but produced limited progress on major issues, including trade and artificial intelligence safety. The two leaders held a 90-minute closed-door meeting on Thursday, discussing the Middle East, Ukraine and the Korean Peninsula, according to the Chinese government.
Xi also said he expected to meet Trump twice more this year, including at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Shenzhen in November and the G20 summit in Miami in December.
Trump’s visit to the National Archives will include a viewing of the US founding documents, including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
