We are seriously against students' corporal punishment; Ashtiani tells ILNA

Iran’s Minister for Education, says that the organization is seriously trying to eliminate corporal punishment.

"Fakhreddin Danesh Ashtiani", Iran’s Minister for Education, in an interview with ILNA, answering questions, whether the Ministry puts efforts in preventing corporal punishment in schools and in this way further providing grounds for dignifying learners, told: "We are vigorously looking for protecting students’ rights. Teachers and students’ interaction is just one instance of such rights that need to be addressed."

"As I mentioned before, we seriously oppose students’ corporal punishment and so far were trying to legally prevent the act from happening" he mentioned.

According to Ashtiani, such an act is rare in the organization's body and among 800 thousands teachers actively serving the students, there are few who commit to such erroneous and inappropriate act.

"In every instances of corporal punishment, we summoned the person and opened a case. In some cases, the teachers were laid off" he emphasized.  

"During the time that I was in charge of the Ministry, about 4 teachers were punished" he noted.
