Iran playing a guiding role in Iraq: Expert

An expert on the region has said that Iran doesn’t interfere directly in Iraq’s political affairs; Iran is playing a guiding role in Iraq.

Hassan Hanizadeh said in an exclusive interview with ILNA that “solving Iran and Saudi Arabia's disagreements can lead to localization of security in the region and it can prevent transregional powers from interfering.”

He said that Iran doesn’t interfere directly in  Iraq’s political affairs; Iran is playing a guiding role in Iraq.

“Some foreign sides are trying to nominate Mustafa Al-Kadhimi as prime minister, however, Iran doesn’t oppose this choice but it seems that the Shiite parties want Nouri Al Maleki as Iraq’s new prime minister,” he noted.

He added that recently, the Iraqi Kurdistan region has turned into a base of harassment and insecurity against the Iranian borders.
