ILNA: Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister in Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdullahian has said that Tehran has made attempts to conduct closer relations with Saudi Arabia as a regionally powerful country.

“We are optimistic that the talks will continue into the future. We believe that Tehran and Riyadh have the necessary potentials to help regional countries exposed to terrorist threats, ” he said.

Abdullahian stated that the most serious problem in the current Middle East is terrorism; one of the main reasons for its existence is the weakness that some regional countries suffer in the face of terrorist movements.

The Iranian diplomat further asserted that political impotence has created political and security gaps in Western Asia that allow terrorist groups to pursue their goals.

On Jan. ۲۵, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed hope that Tehran and Riyadh will boost their bilateral relations.

The country’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Jan. ۱۴ that Tehran and Riyadh are in contact about regional issues, especially the terrorist groups and possible ways to tackle them.

Iran and Saudi Arabia are in disagreement over several regional issues such as the situations in Syria and Bahrain.
