Trump is combative and defensive toward media; American analyst tells ILNA (part one)

"Zachary Elkins", American political analyst and university professor tells ILNA about Donals Trump's approach toward media. Elkins has extensive research on issues of democracy, institutional reform and national identity.

ILNA: Why do you think Trump has taken a different approach toward media? he seems to have specific classifications. On what basis do you think such classifications have been made?

I think, you have to understand him psychologically. I think that he tends to be very defensive and that has been his style in business and another dealings in life and so he’s taking that style into the presidency and I don’t think he has an appreciation, really, of the way those in government and particularly presidency should deal with the press. I think that’s what motivating him.

ILNA: Such an apprach might lead to particular gap, what consequeses such a gap might have on politicial spectrum?

Well I think from his perspective, it has probably been very unwise to take this very defiant and defensive stand. I think a lot of people were willing to give him a chance, once he came into the office and a lot of people thought that he wouldn’t actually act on his worst instincts and unfortunately he has. And I think basically any hope of getting people on board, who don’t believe in his policies is gone, but I think he’s lost a lot of people who has voted for him as well, so I think that’s the reason why he has lowest opinion ratings of any president in very long time. Unfortunately he has been very divisive and continues to be and loosing people left and right.  

ILNA: Some beilieve that media has major role in Trump's vicotry, why do you think he has taken such hostile position, despite such an effect?

I think it’s his personality, I think he tends to be very insecure and very defensive and very hostile so I think that’s just part of his personality and he’s somebody who’s willing to exhibit his personality for everybody to see and so for all, it would be the psychoanalyst to find that very easily!!

ILNA: If you consider such a personality in Trump, do you think he would change his approach toward media?

No I don’t think so, because the media will continue to be hostile toward him and the more he pushes against the media the more the media’s going to push back and because that’s his style to be very combative and I think he just continues to be combative. I think he is under the belief that led him to be elected, that’s what got him to be elected so that works for him. So I don’t expect him to change very much.
