A Year of Great Transformation

2025 was a year of great transformation for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Throughout the year, news of groundbreaking and completion were reported, and the bright faces of people rejoicing in their new lives were visible everywhere.

Probably the DPRK’s leader has delivered speeches in 2025 more than ever before. Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, spoke at over 20 events like groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies. Through his passionate and confident speeches you can get a glimpse of what is characteristic of the DPRK in 2025.

“To be frank, these days I am really tired and busy attending inauguration and groundbreaking ceremonies that have been scheduled one after another. We are facing such moments of drastic change,” Kim Jong Un said as he addressed the groundbreaking ceremony on February 16, 2025 for the fourth-stage project to build 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area of the capital city of Pyongyang.

Actually, before February 16 alone, he attended the inauguration ceremony of the regional-industry factories in Jaeryong County and the groundbreaking ceremonies of the Kangdong County Hospital and leisure complex, the Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm and vegetable science research centre and the Ragwon County Offshore Farm. In addition, there took place the inauguration ceremonies of modern regional-industry factories in 18 cities and counties as the first-year outcome of the implementation of the Regional Development 20×10 Policy.

Throughout the year, similar events were held one after another to celebrate the completion of the third-stage project to build 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area, the launching of two destroyers of the Korean People’s Army Navy, the Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourist Area, the Ragwon County Offshore Farm, the Pyongyang General Hospital, the Kangdong County Hospital and the Hoeyang Army-People Power Station among others. New industrial establishments and rural villages were built up and down the country, adding more to the excitement of the people. A number of projects especially for the first stage of the Tanchon Power Station and the renovation and modernization of the Ryongsong Machine Complex were brought to completion. As the second-year result of the implementation of the regional development policy, modern regional-industry factories were built in 20 cities and counties, with advanced healthcare facilities and leisure complexes taking shape.

At these groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies Kim Jong Un made speeches on several occasions to encourage and inspire the people across the country to bring about fresh changes.

He reportedly told the inauguration ceremony of the Kangdong County Hospital that “proclaiming inauguration in the year of groundbreaking is the standard speed of achieving our ideals.” He added that “we can confidently call 2025 a year of amazing transformation.”

It will be fair to say that transformation is characteristic of the DPRK in 2025.

Comprehensive development will be another feature of the DPRK in 2025. The simultaneous and comprehensive development of all sectors and units is just what is happening in the country today.

As shown to the world community by the celebrations of the 80th founding anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the DPRK’s single-minded unity around the leader has reached new heights. So amazing was the sense of organization and unity the participants in the public procession, torchlight rally and other events, and so honest and truthful was their deep reverence for their leader overflowing on their faces and their pride in and warm love for their country.

As Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the WPK, said in his important speech at the 13th Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK, the country has made a steady leap forward in strengthening its defence capabilities. It has successfully built destroyers capable of carrying out various naval military missions and brought about changes of great significance ranging from ceaseless strengthening of its strategic forces and the expansion of their capabilities to improvement of the combat performance of conventional military hardware.

Already in September, Kim Jong Un said that the five-year plan, set forth by the Eighth Central Committee of the Party, was sure to be carried out in 2025 in the economic field, too. Substantial successes have been achieved in key industries and major economic sectors, and the construction sector has become the one that most clearly and undeniably demonstrates the nation’s progress. The agricultural sector has achieved a year-on-year increase in grain yields. The huge projects for the second-year implementation of the Regional Development 20×10 Policy are bearing fruit one by one.

Notable successes have been registered in the sectors of science, education, public health, arts and sports. Projects for educational development, like the construction of integrated school, school things factory and school fixtures factory, have been pushed ahead with. In particular, women footballers won the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, brining great excitement and encouragement to the local people.

Regional-industry factories were consecutively inaugurated in December 2025 with due ceremonies in different cities and counties of the DPRK, as part of the efforts to carry out the second-year tasks for the Regional Development 20×10 Policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea, bringing great excitement to the local people.

Advanced Regional Medical Centre Opens in the DPRK

The Kusong City Hospital has been recently inaugurated after the Kangdong County Hospital in the DPRK which set 2025 as the first year of the public health revolution and pursues an ambitious goal of providing its local people with advanced medical bases. The country plans to build such modern hospitals in 20 cities and counties every year from 2026.
