Russia has suspicion toward the relations between the Taliban and the U.S. and because of that, they want to recognize it as a political movement, not more, a former Iranian ambassador to Afghanistan said.

The ambassador, Abolfazl Zohrevand, said that Afghanistan’s neighboring countries and the countries which are hosting Afghanistan’s immigrants should reach a joint strategy over the ways of relations with Kabul and the models of behaviors with the problems of Afghanistan.

Russia has suspicion toward the relations between the Taliban and the U.S. and because of that they want to recognize it as a political movement, not more, he added.

Referring to the upcoming elections in Pakistan, the expert told ILNA that undoubtedly, if these elections don’t lead to positive results, we will face a political tsunami not even in Pakistan and Afghanistan but also in the region.

“The U.S. has begun a process to form regional projects that Pakistan and Afghanistan have special positions in this scenario, in other words, they want to get the south of Asia to face a new series of developments and to make changes to it,” he noted.

The news coming out of the Taliban is not so good, he said, adding that the Taliban is facing serious problems toward being recognized at the regional and world level, so there is a possibility that they will put new scenarios on their agenda.
