The Iraqi prime minister set up a workgroup to coordinate efforts with Iran in order to help the Iraqi electricity power plants using Iranian gas.

The Office of the Iraqi Prime Minister in a communique announced that Mustafa Al-Kadhimi on Sunday chaired a meeting with the caretaker of the Iraqi Electricity Ministry and that ministry's managers and listened to their explanations and predictions on Iraq’s needed amount of electricity during the next 6 months, and the electricity Iraq can produce now.

During the meeting, the high electricity usage in the summer season and coordinating the efforts with Iran to feed the Iraqi electricity power plants with increased gas exports were discussed.

Prime Minister Al-Kadhimi in the meeting commissioned a workgroup to visit Iran and remove the obstacles hindering feeding the Iraqi electricity power plants with Iranian gas.

Earlier this month, Iraqi Electricity Minister Adel Karim had said that Iraq has not been successful in its efforts for importing electricity from the southern Persian Gulf Arab countries and will need to import gas from Iran at least for the next couple of years.
