The United States is trying to create "Iran phobia", Iran’s defence minister Amir Hatami said to ILNA news agency.

Iran’s defence minister refers to this idea that Americans doing some activities for creating another 11 September, and confirmed that very complicated and suspicious conditions exist in the region.

He added, "It seems that all of this is in line with an overall policy for creating Iran phobia and creating a consensus against the Islamic Republic."

"Unfortunately, Saudi Arabia stand blindly along Washington in all different areas and they do not even consider their own interests in this regards," Amir Hatami said.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had brought down the Global Hawk surveillance aircraft as it was "violating Iranian air space" over the waters of Hormozgan province.

Crude oil prices rose more than six percent after the incident which marked a new peak in tensions as Tehran pushes back against surging US diplomatic, economic and military pressure.
