Taliban acknowledges Iran efforts to maintain peace in Afghanistan

The Taliban spokesman Zabihollah Mojahed has acknowledged Iran attempts to establish peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The statement was released on Tuesday after Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that Taliban delegation's trip to Iran aimed at facilitating peace talks in Afghanistan.

In his statement, Mojahed announced that Taliban delegation had a trip to Tehran to pursue peace process in Afghanistan.

Describing neighboring countries' efforts to maintain peace and security in Afghanistan, Taliban stressed continuation of trips to regional countries to pursue Afghanistan peace.

Earlier on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi confirmed that a Taliban delegation held extensive talks with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi in Tehran.

The meeting followed a recent visit by the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamhani to Afghanistan during which he held talks with Afghan officials, he said.

On Dec 26, Shamkhani went to Kabul at the invitation of National Security Adviser of Afghanistan Hamdullah Mohib.

During his one-day stay in Kabul, Shamkhani met with Chief Executive of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah and some other Afghan officials.

Enhancing political, economic and security relations, countering terrorism and organized crimes, and border and regional cooperation were among the goals of Shamkhani's visit to Afghanistan.
