Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Bahram Qassemi announced that an Afghan Taliban delegation held talks with Iranian deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Abbas Araqchi in Tehran on Sunday.

Speaking in his weekly press conference on Monday, Qassemi said, “The Afghan government has been informed of the meeting”.

“The Taliban delegation was in Tehran yesterday. They had comprehensive negotiations with the Iranian deputy foreign minister,” the spokesman added.

The talks are designed to set parameters for negotiations between the Taliban and the Afghan government.

About the European financial mechanism known as the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), he stated, “Despite the apparent political will of Europe to keep Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and implement the agreement, the Europe and EU show in practice that in practice they are incapable of confronting US pressures and cannot defend European identity and financial institutions”.

“Europe has not been able to present its SPV in the due time” Qassemi added.

Commenting on EU's delay in launching SPV with Iran, he said although Tehran still hopes that Europe will comply with its commitments, it has pursued other options with countries like China, Russia, India and Turkey.
