Ex-presidential aide sentenced to 5 years in jail

Director General of Tehran Province Justice Department announced that Former Chief of Iranian Presidential office Esfandiyar Rahim Mashaei was sentenced to 5 years in jail.

Gholam-Hossein Esmaili told reporters on Wednesday that endangering national security was the reason behind his imprisonment.

He was also sentenced to 6 months imprisonment for insulting judiciary officials, Esmaili said.

Mashaei was arrested by the security forces for further investigations on his act to torch verdict of the former Vice President for executive affairs during the 10th government Hamid Baghaei.

He put on fire the verdict in protest to Hamid Baghaei’s imprisonment.

Mashaei has also been accused of conducting propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
