Iran appoints its new envoy to UN office at Geneva

Iranian diplomat Esmaeil Baghaei Hamaneh has been appointed as the country’s new permanent representative to the United Nations office at Geneva.

Proposed by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, President Hassan Rouhani approved the appointment of Esmaeil Baghaei Hamaneh as the new permanent representative of Iran to UN office at Geneva.

Esmaeil Baghaei Hamaneh was a member of Iran’s negotiator team in P5+1 talks and after that served as the secretary of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) implementation committee in Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

He has also the experience of working in Iran’s mission to UN in New York in his resume, serving as the Vice-Chairman of the Sixth Committee of UN General Assembly.
