Rouhani: Zagreb's geographical situation is important for Iran

President Hassan Rouhani said Tehran attaches importance to Zagreb due to its geographical situation.

Croatia is a gate for Iran's relations with the European Union (EU), Rouhani said during a joint press conference with his visiting Croatian counterpart Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.

President Rouhani said Iran and Croatia enjoy cultural and historical commonalities.

Iran has had good relations with Croatia, said Rouhani adding Iran also recognized Croatia as a friend soon after it declared independence.

At a joint news conference with her Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani, Croatian President said Zagreb is also for opening of the EU office in Tehran.

She further hoped her trip to Iran will be a turning point in establishment of more economic cooperation.

Congratulating Iran on July landmark agreement with the world powers, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović said start of implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on January 16 led to expansion of Iran's relations with global countries.

Croatian President arrived in the Iranian capital on Tuesday afternoon and will stay here for three days.
