An expert on the Caucasus region has criticized Iran’s policy toward Azerbaijan and warned about the fate of Baku being like Ukraine.

Commenting on the rude statements of Ilham Aliyev against Iran, Afifeh Abedi said that the policies behind the recent statements of Aliyev are not new.

She told ILNA that Baku’s policies toward Iran were aggressive during the last three decades.

Asked about the possible next action of Tehran toward Baku and the possibility of a military conflict between the two countries, she answered that Iran will not be the beginner of any conflict but in the event of any aggressive action by Azerbaijan Iran will put restraint aside.

She also emphasized that Iran's unilateral interest in Azerbaijan is leading to Baku's insolence and a threat to Iran’s national security.

She also stressed that any aggressive action against Iran by Azerbaijan would be like a suicidal operation and Tel Aviv can’t have a direct intervention to support Aliyev’s regime.

The fate of Ukraine should be a big eye-opener lesson to Baku, she said.
