An expert has said that the path to reaching an agreement with the IAEA passes through Vienna, not conversely. It means that if we reach an agreement in Vienna, then we can do it with the IAEA too; otherwise, Iran can’t get the consent of the IAEA if it does anything else.

The IAEA decision (issuing a new resolution against Iran) is aimed at putting Iran under pressure to make it retreat on the negotiations table, Amirali Abolfath told ILNA.

The U.S. wants Iran to get back to the 2015 deal and be committed to all of its commitments under the JCPOA, but they don’t want to get back to the 2015 Iran deal.

Underlining that quitting NPT has a special meaning for Non-proliferation activists, he said that if Iran takes the path of confrontation, the IAEA will also take the path of confrontation. “But until then, time is needed.”

“The parties are weighing each other and do not want to take a radical step. Both sides want to give the other side a chance to reconsider. If a tougher resolution is issued, Iran will take more drastic measures and in a domino move, the case may go to the Security Council and UN resolutions may return,” he added.

I believe that the path to reaching an agreement with the IAEA passes through Vienna, not conversely. It means that if we reach an agreement in Vienna, then we can do it with the IAEA too; otherwise, Iran can’t get the consent of the IAEA if it does anything else, he explained.
