Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro arrived in Tehran to hold talks with senior Iranian officials.

Maduro arrived here on Friday, leading a high-level political and economic delegation, for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

The president of Venezuela will meet with his Iranian counterpart and take part in a gathering of high-ranking officials from both countries.

Iran and Venezuela have both managed to defy US economic pressure and have worked closely together to mitigate the effects of unlawful sanctions, notably those aimed at the energy sector.

Iran has supplied fuel shipments and equipment needed in crude refineries to Venezuela in the face of US pressure on the country's shipping and trade services.

Venezuela has also received major shipments of condensate, a diluent of heavy oil, from Iran.

In a phone call with his Venezuelan counterpart in December, Raisi said Venezuela was targeted by the US because it seeks independence and freedom and fights against the arrogant system.
