A former diplomat has said that although the IAEA resolution doesn’t intended to a refer Iran's case to the UN Security Council, but the adoption of this resolution will prepare the conditions for confronting Iran, increasing tensions, and triggering a snapback mechanism against Tehran.

Given that the Europeans have gotten closer to the U.S., Biden’s coming to power, the increase in the level of cooperation between the U.S. and Europe in different areas, and the Russia-Ukraine war, there is a possibility that they move ahead with triggering snapback mechanism against Iran, Jalal Sadatian told ILNA.

Although the IAEA resolution doesn’t intend to a refer Iran's case to the Security Council, but the adoption of this resolution will prepare the conditions for confronting Iran, he said.

“Even if they refer Iran's case to the Security Council and it will be vetoed by China and Russia, this will prepare the conditions for confronting Iran, increasing tensions, and the activation of snap back against Tehran,” he added.

The United States and France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have submitted a resolution condemning Iran’s nuclear advances and “insufficient cooperation” with the agency at the Board of Governors meetings that began on Monday.

A vote on the resolution will likely take place on Wednesday.

Iran has rejected the claims and blamed the west for lack of serious will to consider Iran’s answers as convincing.
