A former Iranian diplomat has said that the Taliban must accept international rules and that the issue of water rights is our first priority.

The former Iranian ambassador to Afghanistan, Fada Hossein Maleki, has said in an exclusive interview with ILNA that “Given the Taliban's approaches in the last years and its attitude today, it is different from the legitimate governments of Afghanistan.”

He pointed out that as a result, neighboring countries' attitudes toward the Taliban are different from their attitudes toward legitimate governments.

He stressed that recognizing the Taliban is not currently on Iran's agenda but there is people-to-people communication between the two countries.

“The Taliban must accept international rules and that the issue of water rights is our first priority,” he said.

“If the Taliban accepts the formation of an inclusive government, stability will prevail in the country, and if it does not accept, they will face popular protests,” he added.
