A senior Iranian expert said that reviving the JCPOA has nothing to do with the Ukraine crisis and that Iran seeks to revive the Iran deal to ensure its national interests.

Ali Bigdeli, a senior Iranian expert, said in an exclusive interview with ILNA that both Iran and the U.S. need the issue of the JCPOA be resolved, adding that Biden needs to resolve the issue of the JCPOA to put a bargaining chip in front of congress and compensate for his shaky situation, Iran also faces many economic problems.

“Iran believes that all the sanctions related to the JCPOA and the IRGC sanctions must be removed, the U.S. agreed to do so but on the condition that Iran also will reconsider some of its activity in the region. That is the hard knot of the Iran deal,” he said.

He said that the two-month ceasefire deal in Yemen may be a window for reconciliation that opens for the U.S. and the countries of the region.

“I hope this issue will continue and open a window for Iran which can lead to flexibility on the part of the U.S. regarding the IRGC,” he said.

He reiterated that reviving the JCPOA has nothing to do with the Ukraine crisis and that Iran seeks to revive the Iran deal to ensure its national interests.
