On days when the air is dry and this deficiency of humidity is causing Unpleasant ambient air and disease, an air washer unit, a very effective type of device, comes to fight dry air and allergens. Stay with DamaTajhiz mag for more information about air washers.

What is an air washer?

Airwasher is a combined device that has a dual function: it both humidifies and purifies the air. To do this, it more or less reproduces the action of rain in your home, but with less intensity! Water acts as a natural filter by absorbing large particles such as dust as well as much smaller particles such as pollen, dust, and microbes.

In a simple and brief way, the air washer system is a humidifier with the ability to filter and clean the air from pollution and works in both heating and cooling modes (four seasons).

Some air washers have an aromatherapy reservoir that allows you to diffuse your favorite essential oils.

The air washer components

The components of the air washer unit and the equipment used in it are very similar to the components of the air handling unit, with the difference that there is no cooling coil in the air washer, and the cooling system of the air washer is based on the evaporation of water (like an evaporative cooler).

The air washer working principles

Air washers absorb dry and polluted air using a fan. It then passes the air, depending on the model, through an activated carbon pre-filter to remove odors and some particles, or directs it directly to the rotor. The rotor is a cylinder with many ribs called a disk that rotates in the water. So, the water collects the particles, and as a rest, the particles fall to the bottom of the tank. An antimicrobial cartridge can be added to the tank to disperse purer water molecules. In this way, the air is distributed in a uniform manner in the device and due to the nozzles of the air washer, the water powder particles are spread in this part.

Some air washers working principles are a bit different, they direct sucked air into rotating humidifying discs, the air absorbs water molecules while dirt particles such as pollen, pet hair, or household dust stick to the discs and become trapped in the water tank. Also, some air washers are equipped with a disc and a tank that can be washed in a dishwasher. In this way, you can clean the device easily.

Airwasher cooling system

In the air handling unit, the water is cooled by the chiller device and sent to the cool-water coils of the air handling unit, and like the heating process of the air washer that was explained, this time the air is cooled. The air washer cooling system is different from the air handling unit, in air washers, there is no cool-water coil, and as a result, there is no need for a chiller, and instead, there is a part of the device called the water injection chamber (in the air passage) and sprinklers (nozzles) are embedded in it. The nozzles spray the pumped water with high pressure in the passage of the air and fine water particles (which have a strong tendency to evaporate) during the contact with the air, take the heat of the air and reduce the air temperature, and the cooled air is distributed through Channels to the building.

The act of spraying water in the air path causes a significant part of the dust and impurities in the air to be taken by water and collected in the bottom of the device. In fact, this system helps the filtration system (including filters such as HEPA filters).

Use of air washers

These places can include the following residential or industrial areas:

  • Residential buildings
  • Office buildings
  • Commercial buildings
  • Carpenters
  • spinning
  • Store
  • Stadiums
  • factories
  • Dormitories
  • Sheds and...

Advantages of air washers

Optimum consumption of electricity: Using only electricity to operate the fan and pump, the Airwasher unit uses no electricity whatsoever. Based on the results of the tests, this device consumes only 2 amps of electricity in the first round. Therefore, up to 60% of energy can be saved.

Low initial price: The air washer uses an evaporation system, which makes it cheaper than those using refrigeration systems.

Low-cost repair and easy maintenance: There is no need to worry about the cost of replacement parts in the Airwasher as they are inexpensive.

Low noise: Operating noise is much lower than that produced by air conditioning systems utilizing compressors.

Air filtration: During the air cleaning process, at least two stages of filtering and washing are performed. The filters in an air washer are washable and can be separated and replaced easily. The device can be equipped with filters that are much more efficient if the customer requires them. Therefore, this widens the scope of its application.

High ability to heat and cool large spaces, salons, and halls: Because of its customized construction, this device can be an effective industrial air washer for large spaces (greenhouses, mushroom growing halls, schools, poultries, workshops, shopping centers, mosques, halls, etc.). Furthermore, the device disperses heat and cold evenly throughout the space.

Ability to use of single-phase electricity in apartment air washers: In most compression systems, electricity is supplied in three phases. Air washer units do not require three-phase electricity, whether the size of the apartment is large or small.

Optimum consumption of water: In an air washer, water is consumed more efficiently and less than it is used in an evaporative cooler.

Proper ventilation: There is adequate ventilation due to the free air flow involved, especially when the product is used outdoors.

Purified air outcome: During the ventilation process, the fan inside the device creates positive pressure (static pressure) in order to keep the outside air out. The environment is only supplied with purified air.

An eco-friendly system to use: Due to the fact that harmful chemicals are not being used inside the device, the Airwasher is completely environmentally friendly.

Disadvantages of air washers

Placement limitation: This device is quite large, so it needs more space for placement.

Using of clean water: Health issues might arise if the water utilized is not adequately cleansed and wet surfaces of the device are not properly kept.

Inadequate efficiency in areas with sultry climate: Due to the presence of relative humidity in the Airwasher cooling system, this device cannot be used in humid and sultry areas (such as coastal cities).

In the cooling mode, by spraying water on the air, cooling is done, but this also increases the humidity of the air. In the air of humid regions, this device has neither the ability to cool the air in the summer nor to reduce the humidity (although by installing humidifiers, the air humidity can be adjusted accurately and to the desired level in the winter). But if it is used in arid and semi-arid areas, it cools the air well and increases its humidity to an optimal level.

There is no problem with heating because the heating is based on the coils containing the hot water and the water is not sprayed in the air.

Conclusion and buying different kinds of air washers

Among the various ventilation and air conditioning devices, the air washer is one of the best devices because of its dual function. Air conditioning and air purification at the same time, the desired temperature is achieved and air pollutants are removed. Although it needs periodic service, it is quite easy and inexpensive to clean and replace its parts.

Because this device works with water, it needs constant cleaning to prevent scale. On average, you should clean it once a month. For maintaining the air washer properly for a longer period of time, it is very important to pay attention to this issue.

Some parameters that affect the Airwasher price:

  • Function types
  • Dimensions of the device
  • Device capacity
  • Manufacturer
  • Material of parts
  • Used filters

As mentioned above, the air washer is similar to a humidifier, so it is not suitable for areas with high humidity. If you intend to use this device in dry and semi-arid climates, you can be sure that this device’s working principle is the best.
