Taif Azarin Group Cutting machines
One of the methods to study the mechanical properties of rocks is direct cutting test. This test is known as the simplest and most common method used to determine the shear strength of rocks containing weak plates or discontinuities. This type of test is usually done in a laboratory. However, it may also be performed at the project site using a portable direct cutting machine. Since both shear and vertical pressures are applied with hand pumps in this test, there are ambiguities in the accuracy of the results. These ambiguities can be largely eliminated by applying shear stress using electric hydraulic pumps instead of existing mechanical pumps. Using this type of pump, the increase in shear stress during the test is regular and the rate of change can be controlled. A 12-volt battery powers electric pumps. Therefore, the advantage of portability of this device will be maintained.
A number of direct cutting experiments were performed using both machines (existing direct cutting machine and modified direct cutting machine). In order to compare the results of this experiment with the two devices, a number of artificial specimens containing a discontinuity have been tested. The results of this work show that there are differences between the results obtained from the two mentioned machines and this indicates that due to the accuracy of the modified machine, it should be based on the results of direct cutting test with a portable machine in the laboratory.
