Secretary of the Union of Exporters of Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products has said that Iran can export gas to Turkey instead of Iraq.

Hamid Hosseini said in remarks to ILNA that if Iran appeases Iraq in terms of getting its money, the Iraqis will continue to procrastinate in settling their debts.

He was commenting on news reports that Iran resumed gas exports to Iraq.

Instead of exporting gas to Iraq and can’t get the money for that, we can exports to other countries like Turkey.

“Now Ankara is ready to buy our gas in the summer at a higher price,” he added.

We can transfer our gas share market to turkey, he said, adding that Iran is not obliged to export gas to Iraq just because it has a surplus of gas in the summer. This is while Iran continues to stonewall in paying its debts to Iran.

Iraq owes Iran $5 billion in gas and electricity debts and the Iraqi banking system doesn’t cooperate with Iran under the pretext of sanctions, he said.
