An economic advisor in the European Union has said that Iran could have become a major exporter of gas to Europe and East Asia simultaneously if it had viewed its interests with long-term planning.

“If Iran had a long-term outlook, it could have become the biggest source of gas exports to Europe. Simultaneously, it could have increased its gas exports to East Asia fivefold,” Mehrdad Emadi told ILNA.

He said Iran could have exported gas to Europe through Turkey and to East Asia through Pakistan and India.

Emadi further said that Iran could have even become an opportunity for Qatar even though it has the resources of the South Pars gas field.
