Iran's IRGC (The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps) has launched a new high-speed military vessel capable of carrying a helicopter.

Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, commander of the IRGC Navy, said that the home-made vessel has been made according to the latest standards, Fars news agency reported.

According to Ali Fadavi, the 55 meter-long vessel is capable of sailing 10,000 kilometers. Fadavi further added that it took 14 months to build the vessel.

Earlier President Hassan Rouhani announced that the military budget for the current Iranian calendar year (starting March 20) is twice that of the previous year.

The Islamic Republic says that it has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.

Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes since 1992. Iran also unveiled its first domestically-manufactured long-range unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in 2010.
