Iran opens consular office in Rio de Janeiro

Iran has opened a consular office in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to provide consular services to Iranian passengers present there for the 31st Olympic Games.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Iranian Ambassador to Brazil Mohammed Ali Ghanezadeh noted that Iran's embassy in Brazil has established a consular office in Rio to support the presence of 4,000 Iranian visitors who are in this South American country for the Olympic Games.

Iran has also established a handicraft exhibition in the consulate office to introduce rich Iranian culture, the envoy added.

Security of the Iranian team has been guaranteed, Ghanezadeh said referring to the consultations made with the Interpol and local police to provide security of the Iranian athletes representing their country in the 31st Olympics Games which have officially started in the Brazilian capital on August 6.

Sums of 10,444 athletes from 206 countries compete in 28 sport fields in Rio.

The Iranian squad includes 64 Iranian athletes who are competing in 14 sport fields including boxing, table tennis, shooting, bow and arrow, rowing, weightlifting, track and field, taekwondo, judo, fencing, volleyball, free-style wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, swimming and cycling.
