Zarif discusses regional issues with Turkish president

Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed the crisis in Syria with Turkish President Recep Tayyep Erdogan during his one-day trip to the country.

Speaking to IRNA on Friday, Zarif said that he and Erdogan discussed development of mutual relations between Iran and Turkey as well as regional issues including Syria.

He said that enhancement of trade exchanges and economic cooperation was also among major issues discussed with Turkish top officials including the country's president and prime minister.

Removal of obstacles on the way of developing mutual cooperation and in the meantime, increasing the bilateral trade exchanges to 30 billion dollars were also discussed in the meetings, Zarif said.

Iran and Turkey have good potential for cooperation in areas of energy, natural gas, transportation, water, environment, security, politics and international issues, he said.

Iran and Turkey officials have agreed to enhance cooperation between the two countries' apparatuses and establish joint special commissions in this regard including the joint special commission of transportation, Zarif noted.

He said he has attended the country's parliament during the trip to declare his consolidation with Turkish government and people against the coupe.
