Nouri al-Maliki appointed as National Iraqi Alliance leader

Iraqi Vice President Nouri al-Maliki has been appointed as Leader of the National Iraqi Alliance, the country's largest political establishment.

Al-Maliki was appointed by the State of Law Coalition, which is the largest parliamentary faction of Iraq, and based on the previously made agreements among different parts of the faction.

Amar al-Hakim, the former leader of NIA, had recently called for appointment of a new leader for the Iraqi electoral coalition.

According to an agreement made by members of NIA in 2016, it was decided that its leadership last for a one-year term.

The National Iraqi Alliance also known as the Watani List, is an Iraqi electoral coalition that contested the Iraqi legislative election, 2010.
