European fears Iran reach to 20% enrichment; Iran MP
An Iranian legislator said "European fears Iran to reach to the enrichment level of 20% and only for this reason they negotiated with Tehran."
Speaking to ILNA news agency, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mohammad Javad Jamali Nobandegani said that several issues in Iran's second phase are important; Iran is committed to the full implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA) but the Europeans did not fulfill their obligations.
Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Behrouz Kamalvandi said that increasing the level of uranium enrichment to 20 percent purity would be a viable option for Iran in the third step in halting certain commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Jamali Nobandegani added that more than a year has passed since the US withdrawal, and we are witnessing that Europe has not done anything to fulfill their obligations.
He refers to Iran President and Emmanuel Macron phone call and said "All this and all that happened during the last few days is just has one reason and they want to challenge the Islamic Republic's will."
Iran announced on Sunday that it will not limit itself any longer to the enrichment level of 3.67%, agreed in the JCPOA.
The move came after Iran’s 60-day ultimatum to Germany, France and the UK, the three European signatories of the nuclear agreement, to stand up against the US pressure and normalize their trade ties with Tehran.
Government spokesman Ali Rabiei said on Tuesday that Iran will abide by its nuclear obligations as long as Europe sticks to its duties in order to enable Tehran to take advantage of its economic benefits.
In its first phase of scaling down its commitments, Iran said it would start enriching uranium as much as it needs and more than 3.67% purity.
