But best US option at this point given regional & global realities,' Richard Hass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations, wrote on his Twitter page on Tuesday following the remarks by US Defense Secretary James Mattis in support of Iran nuclear deal.

Earlier in the day, Mattis had said that it would not be in the US national security interest if President Donald Trump cancels the Iran nuclear deal.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany signed the agreement in 2015, upon which Iran accepted to curb its nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions removal.

Rex Tillerson, the US administration Secretary of State had said that Iran nuclear deal is one of the differences of views he and the president had.
