The parliament is due to decide on giving votes of confidence to President Hassan Rouhani’s second-term Cabinet on Sunday.

President Hassan Rouhani arrived in Majlis (Parliament) Sunday to give his final speech to defend his proposed ministers.

Members of Iranian Parliament are now reviewing the qualifications of the proposed minister for Sport and Youths Affairs Masoud Soltanifar.

The process to give vote of confidence will also begin alphabetically today.

Akbar Ranjbarzadeh, a member of Majlis Presiding Board, made the announcement said.

“Lawmakers finish confirmation hearings today and the voting will be held on Sunday,” he said, adding that Rouhani will attend the session to speak up for his choices.

Rouhani is likely to have a smooth time in the assembly along with nearly all of his picks, even though members of the reformist parliamentary faction hold negative views about several nominees.

Two other factions, belonging to principlists and independents, are positive on the whole Cabinet. None of the three parliamentary factions commands a definitive majority in the 290-member council.

According to Iran’s Constitution, the nominees require a simple majority of votes in their favor to take over ministerial portfolios.

Rouhani was re-elected as the president for a second term after winning a landmark victory on May 19.

President Rouhani took office on August 5. Then, he proposed 17 out of 18 nominees for ministerial posts of his cabinet.

The proposed ministers' plans are alphabetically being debated at Majlis sessions.
