Members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries have welcomed re-election of President Hassan Rouhani in the May 19 elections, senior lawmaker said on Friday.

Rouhani won a landslide victory by garnering over 23.4 million votes (57 percent of more than 41 million cast ballots) and became Iran’s President for another four-year term.

The Iranian lawmaker Mohammad Reza Tabesh who attended the 172nd meeting of OPEC in Vienna on Thursday said, “OPEC members believe that re-election of President Rouhani is the sign of commitment by Iranian people to continue moderate policies and engage with the world.”

OPEC and non-OPEC countries agreed to extend production cuts for nine months and this is an important development and a big achievement, Tabesh said.

The member of Iran’s Majlis(parliament) Planning and Budget Commission also said that the Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh had constructive talks with officials from the French oil company Total and the Russian oil companies of Lukoil and Gazprom on the sidelines of the OPEC meeting.

The petroleum minister discussed participation of foreign companies in development of Iranian oil and gas fields in the framework of Iran's new model for oil contracts called Iran Petroleum Contracts (IPC), he said.
