T he joint venture between Iran’s biggest domestic automaker Iran Khodro and France’s Peugeot, known as IKAP, is set to import the large Peugeot 3008 SUV by the end of the current fiscal (ending March 2018).

The model will be imported as a completely built unit, local automotive website Car.ir reported.

IKAP had planned last year to put two new models in the Iranian market, namely Peugeot 508 sedan and 3008 SUV.

The 508 sedan came into the market a little sooner than its due date, as the company started the car’s presale in July with a price of 1.79 billion rials ($47,000).

No reason has been given by either Peugeot or IKAP on the SUV’s delay in the market.

In terms of price, the 3008 will probably fall in the same range as other SUVs such as Hyundai Tucson, Renault Koleos and Kia Sportage. The international market offers the model within the range of $28,900 to $43,500.

With the gasoline-powered 3008, buyers can have a choice of 129bhp 1.2-liter and 162bhp 1.6-liter engines, with average economy figures of 55.4 and 48.7 mpg respectively.

It is not known yet which gasoline version the company intends to import to Iran. Diesels cars, however, are banned.
