Iran’s unemployment rate increases to 10.5%
ILNA: Iran’s unemployment rate during the autumn(Sept. 22 - Dec. 22) stood at 10.5 percent, according to the latest report from the Iranian Statistical Center, released Jan. 1.
The unemployment rate among Iranians aged over ۱۰ years in the mentioned three - month period was ۰.۲ percent more than the same period of time in the preceding year.
The figure also indicates a one percent increase compared to the preceding quarter’s unemployment rate(June ۲۱ – Sept. ۲۱).
About ۲.۵۲ million of Iranians above ۱۰ years old were jobless in the mentioned three - month period(ended on Dec. ۲۲).
All Iranians aged over ۱۰ years, who worked at least one hour a week, or temporary left their work during the survey week, were included as employed labor force in the report.
Earlier Iran’s Statistical Center put the summer(June ۲۱ – Sept. ۲۱) unemployment rate at ۹.۵ percent, or ۰.۹ percent less than the same period of time in the previous year(June ۲۱ – Sept. ۲۱,۲۰۱۳), and ۱.۲ percent less compared to the preceding quarter’s unemployment rate(March ۲۱ – June ۲۰).
Iran’s Markazi province registered the lowest unemployment rate with ۵.۵ percent in the autumn. Meanwhile, the highest unemployment rate was in the Kermanshah Province(۱۵.۳ percent).
Unemployment rate in Tehran province stood at ۱۱.۴ percent, ۶.۳ percent more compared to the summer
The country’s labor force participation rate has increased by ۰.۱ percent from ۳۷.۲ percent in last summer(June ۲۱ – Sept. ۲۱) to ۳۷.۳ percent in the autumn(Sept. ۲۲ - Dec. ۲۲), according to the report.
The figure indicates an increase by ۰.۶ percent in comparison with the autumn of preceding year.
It should be noted that the participation rate is the percentage of working - age persons in an economy who, are employed or unemployed but looking for a job.
The country’s urban and rural unemployment rate in the mentioned period(Sept. ۲۲ - Dec. ۲۲) stood at ۱۱.۷ and ۷.۴ percent, respectively.
About ۱۶.۸ percent of the country’s labor force was employed in the agriculture sector, while ۳۴.۴ and ۴۸.۸ percent were employed in the industry and services sectors, respectively.
The Iranian Statistical Center said that over ۳.۶ million were employed in the agriculture sector during the period, while ۷.۳۶ million and ۱۰.۴۵ million people were employed in the industry and services sectors.
Unemployment among men and women was also around ۸.۷ and ۲۰.۳ percent, respectively during the period.
