Iraqi premier to visit Iran Monday: Source

ILNA: Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al - Abadi is scheduled to visit Iran on top of a high - ranking delegation on Monday, an Iraqi source says.

Abadi will be accompanied by his ministers of oil, electricity, economy and commerce, the source told.

During the visit, the Iraqi delegation will meet Iranian officials to discuss key regional issues as well as bilateral relations.

Apart from Iran’s support for Iraq in its fight against terrorism, which includes providing humanitarian aid and military consultation to Baghdad, the two neighboring states have extensive economic ties, particularly in the field of technical and engineering services.

At present, Iranian companies are implementing different projects in Iraq, including civil engineering projects as well as construction of gas pipelines, power plants and electricity grids in the country, and unlike other countries, they have not suspended their activities over concerns about the ISIL threats in Iraq.

Tehran - Baghdad trade currently stands at USD ۴.۲ billion, according to official data.

The two countries also enjoy remarkable tourism ties, with nearly ۱.۳ million Iranian pilgrims visiting Iraq annually.

In the last Iranian year, nearly ۱.۷ million Iraqis traveled to Iran.
